Service classes and "freemium" funding of instances
Service classes and "freemium" funding of instancesI noticed a
comment by Mike about bringing in money to pay for an instance:
I've always liked the freemium model. Which is membership fees, but where people can use basic services for free and pay if they have a need to use additional resources once/if they hit the limits of the free offering. A celebrity is going to use a lot more resources than my sister; but they also have a better ability to pay for those resources. Our software is built around supporting that model, but I haven't seen a lot of people try to use it that way -- yet.
So, is anyone thinking about using it that way yet? Because (streams) has "service classes" which can be assigned to user accounts.
I don't think we have any documentation, but go to your favorite Hubzilla site and check Help > ADMINISTRATORS > Guide > Service Classes. It looks to me like we've got the same thing in (streams). The user interface is entirely from the command line, using edits to
.htconfig
and settings made via
util/service_class
and
util/config
. Service classes can place limits on total photo and file diskspace, total posts, number of channels, number of connections, and number of Guest Access tokens.
